WWW: good topic, good use of pictures.
EBI: choose the topic of conspiracy rather than J Cole, not enough to talk about in between slides, mention the definition of illuminati and also more media text need to be mentioned.

What can I do to improve it?
I think I could turn my presentation into top quality by choosing a slightly different topic. I also think I could've added more information as I had many pauses throughout the presentation. I could've also expanded on the media terminology used.

Summer Project: J. Cole

J Cole is an American hip hop recording artist. Cole first received recognition in 2007, following the release of his debut mixtape The Come Up. Shortly after the release of The Come Up, Cole was contacted by American rapper Jay-Z and subsequently signed to his record label Roc Nation, in 2009. In that same year, Cole released his second mixtape, The Warm Up, which was itself followed by Cole's third mixtape, Friday Night Lights, in 2010.

The reason to why I personally chose to dedicate my summer project to J.cole is because I find his music fascinating as he had to work his way up into the music industry.

Media Representation:

J.cole is always represented as a tranquil person who is very responsible. I'd say that J.cole is different from other rappers as he doesn't always use disturbing language in his music yet he is always successfully  put his point across to his audience. Although there are some occasions in which he uses disturbing language.  J. cole remains the same throughout his music and interviews so his representations remains the same regardless.

Media languages and forms

From J.cole's music the audience is able to get an idea on how he brought up.  We are able to understand that he came from lower class and then came up. In the song that was released last year summer, named crooked smile, the audience is able to understand that as a child J.cole had a tough upbringing. Regarding his facial expressions, J.cole tends to offer a variety of facial expression. It all comes down to the type of music he is performing. He also has a lot of body movements in his music videos as well as his live concerts. He tends to do manly a lot of gestures with his hands to express what he is trying to say.

Narrative

The song 'Crooked smile' begins with J.cole sitting at the back of a car with sirens playing in the background. This could possibly connote that he was involved with something that has caused him to be in trouble. His facial expression also helps the audience to reach this conclusion as his face seems upset as he is looking into distance. This could connote that he is reflecting on what actions he has made that could have caused this. We then get a change of scene. The camera then goes onto showing a scene where J.cole is in the toiler brushing his teeth and cleansing his face. The camera then shows another man doing the same thing, so we receive a bit of back-and-forth shooting. This causes the audience to question who this guy that is doing the same thing as J.cole is, leaving the audience wondering. The camera then goes on to showing J.cole cleaning up the backyard and putting the candles in a cake. This suggests to the audience that he is preparing for an important birthday party. The scene then changes into the anonymous character at home having breakfast with a little girl. The camera focus on them to show their relationship.  We then discover the role as a police man of the anonymous character. This could connote that him and J cole might have an confrontation as we are shown at the beginning that J.cole was in trouble. The scene then changes into a car arriving at J.coles home where the same girl and a male and female come out from. J. cole greets the girl by picking her up and he salutes the other parties present. He picked the girl in a way that connotes that she is his daughter. The scene then changes into the anonymous character the audience came across earlier in the video. He seems to be at the back of a van scheming on how to get inside J.coles house.  As they are all celebrating, the officers come rushing into the home. The next scene is a scene of J cole getting arrested as the girl is looking. We then a get a mixture of two different scenes. In one of the scenes, J cole is represented as a good father as he is celebrating with his daughter. The camera then goes back to the present where he is getting arrested. This shows the difference in the daughters eyes. J cole and his daughter share an eye contact before he is taken away. The video then goes back to the beginning where J. cole seems upset looking distantly into the camera.

Genre:

The main genre that J. cole focuses on is hip hop. Unlike the other rappers, in most of J coles music he talks about how hard it was for him to reach the top rather than bragging about being there. He also makes music coming from females point of views such as lost ones. In this song he shows the hardship females go through when they get pregnant and the father of the unborn child refuses to take responsibility. He tends to show different point of views so his  music can't be labeled as one-sided.

Media audiences:
I think that for J coles music explores fit in properly. As J. cole explores different kind of music by singing in different point of views. I think that the kind of music he makes is most likely to be attractive to the youngster as they are the ones who are facing hardships of those sorts. Young adults might also find an interest in J. Coles music.
